On Wednesday, March 9th, a Victoria jury found Jose Guadalupe Torres guilty of the offense of possessing 285 pounds of marijuana while traveling on US 59 in Victoria.  The marijuana was hidden in the trailer of an eighteen wheeler, amongst a full load of Roma Tomatoes to be delivered to Atlanta, Georgia.

Assistant Criminal District Attorney Brian Hrach prosecuted the charge. Mr. Hrach said, "Given that the driver is only one part of a complicated scheme, these loads can be difficult to discover and also tough to show knowledge by the suspect.  He added, "However, the Department of Public Safety with the help of the Victoria Police Department used their training and investigative techniques skillfully to catch this load and show the involvement by Mr. Torres. "Criminal District Attorney Steve Tyler commented, "We congratulate all the agencies involved in this case."  He added, "This is another message to drug traffickers that we do not want them to use our roadways."
